52 Division Kids Police Posse
This youth group meets EVERY Thurs. night 1900-2100 hrs. (52 Division Kid’s Police Posse Gym Night at University Settlement (Co-ed 6 -16yrs.) and is supervised/mentored by Police /Volunteers/Parents playing various sporting activities in the University Settlement Gymnasium (23 Grange Rd.) (Dodge ball/indoor soccer/basketball/rock climbing in sometimes a split gym format).
Our goal beyond the exercise aspect is to emphasize important value skills such as leadership, confidence, teamwork mutual respect and overall life style, safety skills etc.
During this program there was also an observed void for a much-needed Older Youth, Out Reach initiative because of the young men's basketball games that were played in the same Gym just previous to the Police Posse slotted time. (No interaction between most of the Older and Younger Youth and Police Officers)
This new program was initiated and organized by P.C. Dale Corra of 52 Div. in conjunction with (University Settlement), and various 52 Division Police Officers and their counterparts on the Toronto Police Service Basketball Team ( JUNE JAM and SEPT.SLAM )This is quite simply attempting to have the older youth connect more with Police Officers and the younger youth group that are all socially inter-connected in the Inner City Community. (Grange Park Area).
At the conclusion of the game short complimentary speeches are made and trophies are handed out for Most Respectful Team Player (not a M.V.P. criteria). These games were both incredibly competitive and close with officers and youth in the "SEPT. SLAM" basketball game opting to inter- mix the teams from both sides. Everyone who participated and watched the game is looking forward to the "DECEMBER DUNK" that is in the works.
52 KIDS' POLICE POSSE GREAT KID AWARD

The plaques will be displayed in a showcase inside the lobby of University Settlement House.
52 KID'S POLICE POSSE PARENT NIGHT
This informal but very necessary event gets together with Parents, officers and volunteers for a fun evening at U.S.H. gym/including B.B.Q. The evening attempts to explain to the parents the program protocol and simply helps everyone know each other better. This community event is basically an administrative update, learn and listen session covering various important issues such as legal waivers /photo opportunities choices and individual youth needs/requirements/ directions from parents or officers/volunteers and ProAction. The 52 Division Youth Outreach programs are now partially funded by ProAction.
Further topics and issues discussed are waiver form signings including information regarding such concerns as allergies/illnesses, drop off and pick up procedures with signed mandatory designated family members/ legal guardian) approval. It is also just as important for the officers, volunteers and parents to put a personal face on who everyone is and what we are trying to accomplish and to further explore possibilities with a respectful meaningful communicative relationship with the common goal of helping our DIVISIONAL YOUTH receive as much moral and structural mentoring/support as we can provide.
