Communication for the speechless

An article recently in the Globe and Mail brings awareness of people who speak in different ways, using what is know as alternative and augementative communication (AAC).  Some people rely on high-tech devices to give voice to their thoughts though Rebecca communicates mainly through expressions and the common knowledge that comes through deep relationships. This quote from Gail Fisher-Taylor highly resonates... 
"We can get taken in by technology,” Ms. Fisher-Taylor said. “But isolation remains the major issue in this community. For that reason, a lot of people actually prefer low-tech communication because it necessarily involves relationships. When you ask people here what they want most of all, the message is simple: Get to know me.”
